Welcome to the University of Texas Nexus Installment

In 1865, Otis Allen Glazebrook established the first chapter of Alpha Tau Omega at the Virginia Military Institute to help heal the broken and tarnished souls affected by the Civil War. The principles of unity and brotherhood that inspired the founding of our fraternity in 1865 remain relevant today, with over 200,000 initiated members across more than 250 chapters nationwide.

Built on Values. United in Texas.

If you’re looking for a place where you belong, where you can have fun, and where you can grow alongside like-minded individuals, ATO is that place. But Alpha Tau Omega is more than just a place—it’s an opportunity. An opportunity to be part of something bigger than college, a brotherhood built on shared values, personal growth, and making a real difference that lasts well beyond your time on campus.

Our Chapter in Phases

  • The expansion team spends several weeks on campus building genuine relationships and identifying high-caliber men who are ready to help start something new. Through one-on-one conversations, student organization outreach, and intentional marketing, a strong and diverse pool of potential members is developed.

The focus is on students who demonstrate leadership, integrity, and a desire to be part of a values-based brotherhood. Informational meetings, small-group events, and personal invitations help bring together a committed founding class built to last.

  • Once a strong founding class was established, the chapter entered the next phase of development with the formal installation of an ATO Nexus. Officers were appointed and trained directly by National Staff, and members were introduced to the expectations and responsibilities of self-governance.

In partnership with the host institution, a Nexus Ceremony was held to recognize the chapter and its founding members publicly. Following the ceremony, members participated in retreats and leadership development experiences, including the Birkman Method™ assessment, which helped shape the chapter’s culture through a deeper understanding of individual strengths, motivations, and needs.

  • The final stage of the process focuses on preparation for chartering. Over a 12–18 month period, the Nexus Installment works to meet the requirements to become a fully chartered ATO chapter by growing membership, refining operations, engaging in service, and contributing meaningfully to the broader campus community.

With continued guidance from National Headquarters staff and local volunteers, the chapter demonstrates excellence across key performance areas. The chartering ceremony marks the initiation of all Founding Fathers and the official recognition of the chapter as a fully chartered chapter of Alpha Tau Omega.
